PRACTICAL SHOOTING DAY

Practical Shooting is the most Dynamic form of Shooting

It involves Speed, Accuracy, Movement and Planning.

Competitions are ran against the clock and are usually scored by a Comstock scoring System which combines the Speed and Accuracy of the shooter to give a points score for each Stage Shot. Good Planning and preparation will enhance the score of the stage and keep the shooter from being disqualified for breaking the rules.

Guns that are used in practical shooting vary but most will be Fast shooting multi shot semi auto weapons, Pistols Rifles and Shotguns.

Stages are Built with a set number of Targets which can be frangible or static. Stages will also include no shoot targets that will incur penalty points if shot and foot fault boxes which again will incur procedural penalties if stepped out of when shooting.

Typically stage setters will make the stage as interesting and challenging as they can and this can include the use of props and barricades or obstacles that need to be shot over or under with either strong hand or weak hand from kneeling standing or prone positions.

Various calibers can be used on different stages including buck shot bird shot and solid slug, 22lr and pistol calibers

The Day is Ran by Qualified Range Officers or RO and Safety is paramount for all involved.
